Koalas
Redland City is home to Australia's largest population of urban koalas.
It has been estimated that there are approximately 3,000 koalas living in the Redlands, on the mainland and North Stradbroke Island. The Redland's koala population is recognised as being significant due to the number of koalas that live within our urban environment. There is no where else in the world where so many people consistently interact with a natural population of koalas.
Since 1999, the koala population has declined an estimated 27 per cent. Redland City Council, along with the community, is working hard to help conserve and manage the natural population of koalas in the Redlands.
