Plant sales

The IndigiScapes Plant Sale is on the first Saturday of every month, 9am - 12pm. Gardens, centre and cafe are open until 4pm.

With all the beautiful rain and warm weather we’ve been having recently, it's a great time to pop into the centre and pick up some natives for the backyard. We’ve got a good range of healthy stock available this month, still at the great price of only $2.10 per plant.

There’s a great variety of tasty bush tucker treats on offer including Midyim Berry (Austromrytus dulcis), Native Gardenia (Atractocarpus chartaceus), Native Tibouchina (Melastoma affine) and Macadamia Nut (Macadamia integrifolia). Macadamia is vulnerable at both the State and National level, so by planting this species you’ll be doing it a huge favour. The tree itself can grow up to 15m and requires semi-shade to full sun and low-moderate water. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Midyim Berry only grows to about 50cm and can be planted in groups to create a low hedge, or planted individually. It flowers in spring and summer and produces many small white flowers and an edible white round fruit which can be made into a jam.

Native Gardenia has the dual benefit of providing an edible cylindrical red fruit and mildly fragrant petals. This shrub will grow up to 3m and prefers semi shade and well drained soils. Keep an eye out also for the Native Tibouchina. This is a highly attractive shrub to 2m has large vibrant pink flowers and edible fruits. It naturally occurs in wetter areas bit is generally quite hardy. Prefers partial to full sun.

There’s also a large variety of native ferns available, suitable for that damp understorey in the garden. Sago bush (Ozothamnus diosmifolius) and Dwarf Banksia (Banksia oblongifolia) are still in plentiful supply and in good condition. Dwarf Banksia grows to around 1 m in height and flowers in Autumn and Winter. The creamy-yellow cylindrical flower spikes are 5-15cm long and will attract a range of birdlife into your garden. This plant favours full sun or dappled light and grows easily in well-drained soil or in a pot. Sago bush grows to about 2m, can tolerate semi-shade to full sun and has low water needs.
