Trees and vegetation protection

Redland City is home to different types of trees and vegetation that are an integral part of our distinctive surroundings and lifestyle.
Trees and vegetation are essential for our beautiful city to stay ‘green and clean’, ensuring future generations can continue to enjoy the quality of life that makes the Redlands special.
The value of trees and vegetation in the Redlands
Trees provide numerous environmental, social and economic benefits to our area.
Different rules apply to trees and shrubs on private property, to those on public land. If a tree or shrub is on the footpath outside a property boundary, park or on a reserve, it is on public land. Trees within boundaries of property are considered private property.
Trees on private property
Council recognises the benefits that all trees provide to our city, including trees located in private property. In 1998 Council enacted a local law and policy designed to protect the Redland’s environment.
