Koalas
Redland City is home to one of the most significant urban koala populations in Australia. Residents and visitors to the Redlands can enjoy the sights of koalas in parklands, street trees, shopping centre carparks, schoolyards and urban backyards. We even have a number of koalas who use the Cleveland CBD as part of their home range. There is nowhere else in Australia where you can have this memorable experience within 20 minutes from a major capital city.
The Redland’s koala population is estimated at less than 3,000 koalas Unfortunately this population has declined 62 per cent over the last 10 years. Redland City Council, along with the community is working hard to help conserve and manage the natural population of koalas in the Redlands.
